Have you ever stood at the edge of a new season, knowing one chapter has ended but feeling uncertain about what comes next?

That is where we find Joshua. Moses is gone, the Israelites are standing near the Jordan River, and Joshua is being called to lead them forward. The weight of the moment must have felt enormous. Like the Cowardly Lion, who tried to sound fierce while hiding his fear, we sometimes put on a brave face when we are trembling inside. We smile, sing, serve, and keep moving, while quietly wondering, “Am I really ready for this?”

In Joshua 1:1–2, God speaks to Joshua after the death of Moses:

“Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them.”
—Joshua 1:2 NASB 2020

God does not ignore Joshua’s grief or pretend that the transition is easy. He acknowledges what has ended, then gives Joshua a clear command: “Arise.” In other words, it is time to move forward. Joshua’s circumstances had changed, but his God had not. The same God who guided Moses would now guide Joshua. The mission did not depend on one human leader. It continued because the Lord remained faithful to His promises.

That truth still encourages us today: new season, same God. You may be entering a chapter that feels bigger than your strength. Perhaps you are stepping into leadership, navigating uncertainty, recovering from disappointment, or trying to obey God when you cannot see the entire path ahead. God does not call you because you are naturally fearless. He calls you because He is faithful.

Joshua did not have to create the future on his own. God was already present in the place He was sending him. The Lord who called Joshua forward had already gone ahead of him. The same is true for you. Stop measuring the assignment only by your weakness. Your fear does not disqualify you, and your uncertainty does not mean God has abandoned you. Courage is not the absence of fear. It is choosing to trust and obey God even when your heart is still trembling.

Today, listen for God’s call to arise. Name the place where you have been hesitating and surrender it to Him. Ask for ears that recognize His voice, a heart willing to obey, and courage to take the next faithful step. You may not feel completely ready, but you do not have to face the future alone.

The season may be new, but your God is still the same.
