Sunday’s service ended with recommitment, covenant, and communion. These special moments reminded us of something important: the church is not simply a place we attend or an organization we support. We belong to Jesus. That matters because we live in a world that constantly tells us to put ourselves first. We are encouraged to protect our position, pursue recognition, and make sure we get what we deserve. But Jesus shows us a completely different way to live.

If we are going to worship, work, and walk together faithfully, we cannot keep following the world’s way of thinking. We need the mind of Christ.

In Philippians 2:5–7, Paul writes:

“Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.”

Paul is not simply asking us to admire Jesus. He is telling us to think and live like Him.

Jesus had every right to hold on to His heavenly position and glory, but He chose to humble Himself and become a servant. He came near to us because love, mercy, and humility are at the heart of who He is. That is not just one small part of the gospel. It is what the gospel looks like. Jesus came down to lift us up. He stepped into our weakness, experienced our sorrow, and entered fully into our humanity without ever ceasing to be Lord. When we see Jesus humbling Himself and serving others, we see the heart of God.

This is especially important as we think about covenant and communion. Our church cannot be held together by personalities, preferences, or who gets their way. We are united by Jesus, the Savior who humbled Himself for us. His example should shape the way we worship, serve, forgive, and care for one another. So, let’s do more than agree that Jesus was humble. Let’s allow His humility to change us.

Take a moment to thank Jesus for coming near when He could have remained distant. Thank Him for serving, sacrificing, and giving His life to save you. Then honestly ask yourself: Have I truly surrendered to the Christ who humbled Himself for me? Is the way I treat others beginning to reflect His servant-heart?

Take the Next Step

This week, look for one practical way to serve someone else. Encourage a person who feels overlooked. Help without being asked. Forgive someone. Listen without interrupting. Meet a need without expecting recognition. And before you do it, pray this simple prayer:

“Jesus, help me think like You, love like You, and serve like You.”

Then share this message with someone who may need the same encouragement. Let’s become a church that does more than talk about the mind of Christ. Let’s show it in the way we love and serve one another.
